A Cardi for the Kiddo.

Anela is my 13 year old daughter. Since I have been knitting all these baby sweaters she has become interested in me knitting her a cardigan. Ive never knit a sweater larger than an 18month old size…but I told her I would start looking at patterns. Well, tonight – while waiting for the Super Bowl commercials, (and ignoring the actual game) – we found the Sweetheart Cardigan on Webs, and she fell in love with the pleats on the sleeves and the back of the neck. Its a similar construction to the baby sweaters Ive been knitting, so Im fairly confident Ill be able to figure out the pattern.

So then it was on to finding the yarn. She wanted pink, a light but bright pink. I wanted a soft, squishy yarn with enough variation in color that I won’t get bored knitting it. Its knit in a DK weight yarn…oh how I LOVE DK weight yarn. We found the PERFECT yarn on Webs.  I mean, it couldn’t be any more amazing. Its the Valley Superwash DK 40th Anniversary Hand Dyed by Madelintosh!! Ive knit with Valley Yarns before and enjoyed it, and then to have it dyed by Madelinetosh!! Plus, Webs gives discounts when you order multiple skeins of yarn, so the price was within our budget. Anela chose the color “Fragrant” and it looks like this:

I love the color. It  has enough variation to keep my attention while knitting, and enough bright pink to please the kiddo.  Now, to stalk the Mail Man until it arrives…

About zenren

I am in my mid-thirties, and blissfully married to a guy named Dave with whom I have a 15 year old daughter named Anela, and she is my world. I'm the RN Clinical Nurse Manager of a Transitional Care Unit where I work extremely hard to make my nurses and my patients happy. I knit shawls, and hats, and baby sweaters. I obsessively use Burt's Bees lip balm. I love spending weekends on our little slice of lake in northern Minnesota, and laying in the grass near the bonfire on a cool spring night with the kiddo watching for shooting stars while eating gooey s'mores with sticky fingers. I enjoy wrapping up in over-sized, snuggly warm sweaters in the autumn and going for walks with the smell of fallen leaves and trees blazing with color. I read a lot of self-help books. I frequently do not answer my cell phone. My husband adores me because of my quirks, not in spite of them, and I do my best to appreciate that. Im learning to meditate, and have a weakness for a good cup of tea. My nephew is adoreable, and brings me so much joy. I knit to wind down, stay sane, and create beautiful things.
