A Dress for Irie

I have finished the toddler dress for little Irie. The buttons are from Buttons by Robin on etsy, and they are amazing. I highly recommend buying lots and lots of cute buttons from her shop. They are well made, and machine washable. The yarn is Tosh DK in Esoteric, and the color is so deep and vibrant. One of the best yarns I have knit with – both for the soft, bouncy-ness of the knit fabric, and the rich, teal color.  I am very excited to give this dress to Irie this weekend. Her momma is going to swoon.

Ive already cast on another dress in the same style in Tosh DK in the color way Coquette. Its a deep magenta pink, and has the same gradations as the teal did. The pattern was improvised. I began the dress similar to the Monarch Butterfly Cardigan, but joined to work in the round once I got to the skirt, and overlapped a few stitches for the button band. I wanted a simple dress that could really show off how pretty the yarn was, and something that would fit for the longest amount of time. The way this dress is made, it can be worn as a tunic with leggings as Irie gets taller.

Did I mention how much I love the buttons?! Im pretty proud of this little dress. I think it turned out perfectly.

About zenren

I am in my mid-thirties, and blissfully married to a guy named Dave with whom I have a 15 year old daughter named Anela, and she is my world. I'm the RN Clinical Nurse Manager of a Transitional Care Unit where I work extremely hard to make my nurses and my patients happy. I knit shawls, and hats, and baby sweaters. I obsessively use Burt's Bees lip balm. I love spending weekends on our little slice of lake in northern Minnesota, and laying in the grass near the bonfire on a cool spring night with the kiddo watching for shooting stars while eating gooey s'mores with sticky fingers. I enjoy wrapping up in over-sized, snuggly warm sweaters in the autumn and going for walks with the smell of fallen leaves and trees blazing with color. I read a lot of self-help books. I frequently do not answer my cell phone. My husband adores me because of my quirks, not in spite of them, and I do my best to appreciate that. Im learning to meditate, and have a weakness for a good cup of tea. My nephew is adoreable, and brings me so much joy. I knit to wind down, stay sane, and create beautiful things.
