More Shawl Knitting

Ive recently been working on a couple little hats for my Godson. One is in Minnesota Twins colors and the other in Seattle Seahawks colors. The Twins one is newborn size, and the Seahawks one is more toddler sized. I haven’t finished them yet, but I was able to find a seller on Etsy that does custom embroidered patches, and I had a baseball and a football made and embroidered with his name to go on the hats. Ill post pics and share the cuteness once the hats are complete with patches sewn on.

Ive also been knitting the Mezquita Shawl for my sister’s Mother-in-Law. She’s an amazing woman who has “adopted” me as another Daughter-in-Law. She lives in Florida, but was recently up to visit for my sister’s baby shower, and she loved the shawl I recently finished for my mom. I decided that she was going to be the recipiant of  my next shawl, and I promptly ordered some more Tosh DK in Esoteric – the same teal blue that I used for the baby dress I made this past winter. Her favorite color is teal, and I haven’t seen a yarn in a more beautiful shade than the Esoteric. I only had to rip out the lace once, and now I am through to the straight knitting portion of the shawl. Its no where near as challenging as my mom’s shawl was. The lace pattern actually repeats in this one so it was easy to memorize.

She said that a shawl would be perfect for those cool Florida evenings through the Winter months. Im glad she showed an interest in my knitting, and she seemed pleased that I would make something for her.

Other than that, Im working on a pink toddler dress, and my daughter’s sweater. I always end up with multiple projects on the needles. I switch off between them every night. But I usually spend more time on one or two of them. I wanted to enter my Monarch Butterfly Cardigan into the State Fair, but the youngest sweater category is toddler size 3, and my cardi is only about size 24 months. So Im debating about trying to whip up another one in a larger size, or possibly entering the Pink Toddler Dress. I could easily finish it by the deadline, but I really love how that Monarch Butterfly Cardi turned out, with the custom buttons and all…Im a little sad I can’t submit it.

About zenren

I am in my mid-thirties, and blissfully married to a guy named Dave with whom I have a 15 year old daughter named Anela, and she is my world. I'm the RN Clinical Nurse Manager of a Transitional Care Unit where I work extremely hard to make my nurses and my patients happy. I knit shawls, and hats, and baby sweaters. I obsessively use Burt's Bees lip balm. I love spending weekends on our little slice of lake in northern Minnesota, and laying in the grass near the bonfire on a cool spring night with the kiddo watching for shooting stars while eating gooey s'mores with sticky fingers. I enjoy wrapping up in over-sized, snuggly warm sweaters in the autumn and going for walks with the smell of fallen leaves and trees blazing with color. I read a lot of self-help books. I frequently do not answer my cell phone. My husband adores me because of my quirks, not in spite of them, and I do my best to appreciate that. Im learning to meditate, and have a weakness for a good cup of tea. My nephew is adoreable, and brings me so much joy. I knit to wind down, stay sane, and create beautiful things.

I agree. Esoteric is one of the most beautiful shades of teal on the market. ❤
