We had a nice long weekend up at the lake over the Fourth of July. The weather was perfect, and so was the company. We spent some time out on the lake fishing.
We didn’t catch much, but the time out on the water was peaceful. And any time spent with the kiddo where she isn’t glued to her cell phone is always nice!
On the Fourth the kiddo put on a fireworks display for us at the cabin rather than going into town and watch the show there. She did a very nice job! And it was fun picking them all out with her, and then deciding which to light off first.
On to the knitting! So I had been working on a pink version of the toddler dress I improvised in teal previously. I was able to finish the knitting and got the buttons sewed on tonight. Its a surprise gift for a friend’s mother for her granddaughter. Im going to stop by her house with it later this week. The yarn is Madelinetosh ToshDK in Coquette. The buttons were bought from Buttons By Robin on etsy.
The other project I finished is the Mezquita Shawl for my sister’s Mother-in-Law, Jan. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I knit a shalwette for my mom and Jan just loved it. So I decided that she should have one as well. Jan and my mom are about to be grandparents to a new grandson and Jan thought it would be nice to have a photograph of both grandmas holding little Trevor wearing their shawls. So I had to get the shawl done before Trevor arrives – which could be any day now. Jan will be flying up to be here for the big day on Sunday (hopefully Trevor stays put that long!) and I can give it to her then.
The yarn is Madelinetosh ToshDK in Esoteric. This pattern was no where near as difficult for me as my mom’s Vista Shawlette. This time the lace pattern repeat was easy to to learn, and then remember, as it simply reverses half-way up. Im very happy with the result. I love how the ToshDK knits up with the subtle color variation.
Now I am knitting another Kina for a work friend’s little girl. Its in size 2T so its taking a bit longer than the smaller sized Kinas Ive done in the past, but coming along. I am also (finally) working on a shawl for myself. I chose the Caterpillar Crescent Shawl for the lacy overlapping leaf edging, but Ive modified it a bit. Instead of garter rows after the lace ends, Im doing stockinette. Im also knitting it a bit wider then the 12 inches the pattern suggests. Maybe, it will also be done before Trevor arrives and then we can throw the God Mother into the photo in her shawl as well!
